July / August 2010: Summer Exhibition at the Gallery
| The Norman Cross Gallery's
Summer Exhibition combines the creative talents of youth and experience to deliver
one of the most visually powerful exhibitions from two Stamford based artists.
Derek Lopez, the gallery owner and a member of Peterborough's "Citizen
Power Programme" for the arts which was officially launched at the Thomas
Deacon Academy on Monday 19th July, says "This exhibition truly captures
the citizen and artistic power in our region that is on offer to the citizens
of our city". The exhibition runs from 24th July to 4th September. | | Flossie
Lockwood The Gallery's discovery of 2008, this young, gifted and talented
artist starts her University career at London Goldsmiths this year after completing
her Foundation Course at Camberwell. This is her second showing at the Gallery
of her pen and ink drawings, which is a must for any art lover to view. Still
just a teenager she possesses the talent that would take many an accomplished
artist years to perfect, her images of the acclaimed actor Morgan Freeman, President
Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela and her poetic vision of 'Experience Hands' are
exceptional, which acquired the Royal approval by HRH Prince Charles on a visit
to her school in Stamford. | | | | | | | Rodney
Salter, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts One of the finest artists
of our time has now returned to England having spent 20 years in France. A true
professional in both skill and application empowering the soul with his paintings
and sculpture. He is a free thinker which clearly shows in his much collected
work and has exhibited worldwide. His work could be described as working in two
parallels "Abstract" and "Abstract Symbolism", and the viewer
cannot but be moved by the emotion it creates. The Norman Cross Gallery is
privileged to have found such an incredible artist and his work is some of the
finest seen by the gallery during its existence. We are displaying a small
percentage of his work in this exhibition, with a solo show at the Gallery commencing
in October. |
