Gillian Burrows
Gillian Burrows arrived as an established artist in Docklands, London, 1996. Now regarded as one of the foremost artists in this area and best known for her work depicting the Docklands area and its landscape. She qualified in the early sixties with a National Diploma in Design in Graphics from Watford College of Technology and Art. She then worked in advertising industry as a graphic designer, and lectured in printmaking at High Wycombe College. In 1967 she joined Decca Records as sleeve co-ordinator for their design studios and later established her own freelance studio creating hand-made cards for Fortnum & Mason, Liberty, Harrods and Heals.
Gillian was drawn to London and the Docklands some years ago and has been painting the area since the early 1980s. Working in pen/watercolour, acylic and mixed media, using archive information, current sketches and photographs, Gillian possesses a unique style that has captured the innovative and evolutionary nature of the area. She draws enormous inspiration from her Docklands surroundings and leases a studio at Trinity Buoy Wharf where she works on her larger canvasses.
She has exhibited at the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours, the Society of Women Artists, and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. One-woman exhibitions in London, Europe and the USA since 1980.
At Norman Cross Gallery, Gillian has exhibited some specially commissioned work of Peterborough and Ely Cathedrals and a montage of Norman Cross and Peterborough in limited Gilclee prints, and also striking images of the London Docklands area.
